About Interfaith Drug Policy Initiative (IDPI)Mission StatementThe Interfaith Drug Policy Initiative was established in November 2003. The following is our mission statement, as it appears in our Articles of Incorporation: The purpose for which this non-profit corporation is formed is to organize people of faith to promote drug policy reform; i.e., moving from prohibition laws toward reasonable and compassionate drug regulation, education and treatment. To these ends, the corporation will: (a) research the sociological, psychological, spiritual and other factors regarding drug use, abuse and addiction; (b) from a moral, ethical, and religious perspective, evaluate existing and potential laws and policies regarding drug use, abuse and addiction; (c) transmit such information to people of faith and faith-based organizations and institutions, for the purpose of building an interfaith constituency of people who support non-punitive, non-coercive alternatives to the "war on drugs"; (d) organize advocacy to persuade federal, state and local legislators (and other appropriate government entities) to reform the drug laws accordingly; (e) bolster public support for drug policy reform through speaking engagements, educational seminars, and the mass media; and (f) engage in any other lawful activities to carry out its purposes.
